TNC support: all mouth, no trousers?

Mike Fratto had an interesting post on the InformationWeek blog recently, where he described how it’s all very well for companies to have ticked the box in the feature set that says “Supports TNC” (that’s Trusted Network Connect from the Trusted Computing Group), but apparently some of these people are not actually shipping the code, because the customers are not asking for it, it seems. However, a recent survey by InformationWeek on NAC (Network Access Control) showed that 75% of respondents felt standards was important, very important, or critical.
So, it seems to be that the vendors are not listening to the customer, or alternatively the customer isn’t shouting loud enough. So, Mike Fratto has a call to action to those people looking to buy:
Make the demands viral. Tell your peers to make similar demands. If your local sales rep is nonresponsive, contact the vendor directly or, for that matter, send me an e-mail and I will forward it to the people I know within the vendor.
To the vendors he has this to say:
Stop hiding behind the “demand” shield. It’s old and says a lot more about your company than you suppose. It’s an excuse that says you don’t have the resources to respond to customers needs and that doesn’t give anyone confidence that your company will be around next year.
The article’s a good read, and can be found here.
