TCG’s TNC, NAC, MAP, IF-MAP and IETF RFCs

This alphabet soup comes from an article looking at the Trusted Computing Group’s (TCG) Trusted Network Connect (TNC) specification for Network Access Protocol (NAC). At Interop Las Vegas the TCG’s TNC demonstrated not just NAC for connecting to networks, but then using a meta-data access point (MAP) that allows other applications to use the IF-MAP protocol to access this MAP. The hardware used was supplied by InfoBlox

Steve Hanna, co-chair of the TNC Work Group, said that the TCG may try to get this IF-MAP approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The IETF is considering other TCG NAC standards as RFCs.

The full article may be found at the Network World’s web site here, should you wish to brave the abbreviation overload!
