Sony’s new Vaoi TT198 and TT160 targeting corporates

News from Sony is that their latest small form-factor notebooks do not skimp on features, or on the pirce tag.

For your $2,750 you get a Vaio TT198 with a 128 GB solid-state drive, Blu-ray burner, and of interest to this blog, a fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module for full Trusted Computing Group-compliance. The article on Betanews suggests that this allows hard drive encryption, which is correct, but it is not much stronger than an all-software solution – one needs the hardware level TCG Storage solution for that – although there are definite system management benefits from using a TPM versus a pure software-based solution.

The rest of the specs include a Centrino 2-based processor, 160 GB hard disk as standard (no word if a TCG Storage-compatible option is available), 32-bit Windows Vista Ultimate, and if not the kitchen sink, a heat sink or two, all wrapped up in colourful cases – pearly-gold being one of the options – made of carbon fibre to tip the scales at a little over 6 kilograms, depending on optional extras.

If you have a big wallet (or expense account), or just fancy a drool over the kit, read BetaNews’ article here.
