*sigh* More poorly-informed Trusted Computing criticism

A recent entry in the Syntactic Sugar blog highlighted ‘The danger of “Trusted Computing” and DRM’, although a more accurate title would be ‘The danger of non-open designs’, although I’d still disagree with the thrust of the article.

The article’s argument is based around being able to experiment with devices in ways not envisaged or permitted by the manufacturer, which leads us down the slipperly slope to:

Total control of inventions by their manufacturers may be the death knell for the legend of the inventor in the garage.
