Open Kernel Labs on Trust and Trustworthiness

Posted by Ken Y-N on September 25th, 2008 at 09:25am

Open Kernel Labs have recently appeared on my personal radar – when you start looking at the connections between companies, consortia and projects it’s quite amazing what you find! – so I was naturally very curious to see what they were talking about in a recent post on Trusted vs. Trustworthy.

Trust is often misunderstood (and misconstrued) in relation to Trusted Computing Base (TCB), Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and other computer-related terms involving the word, so Benno Leslie, Vice President of Engineering at Open Kernel Labs tried to clarify the meaning of the T in TCB. Just to confuse the reader, he declares:

To put any faith in the security of the system we should ensure that any trusted code is trustworthy code.

Fortunately in future posts he will be describing how trustworthiness of trusted code can be increased. I’m looking forward to understanding what he’s getting at!
