Nokia licenses Intertrust patents

Posted by Ken Y-N on September 1st, 2008 at 02:01pm

I read some news about Nokia striking a deal with Intertrust to use some of their patented technology, specifically related to Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), Marlin Digital Rights Management (DRM) and other assorted mobile distributed trusted computing-related technologies.

I did some work with Intertrust a number of years ago and I’ve looked at a few of their patents. I always wonder with these cross-licensing deals whether there’s not an aspect of MAD (mutually-assured destruction) involved as no-one really wants to risk waving their intellectual property portfolios around and everyone ending up worse off bar the lawyers!

I found the press release here.
