NAC uniting under the TNC banner

The highlight for the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) from the Interop Las Vegas conference must surely be the Trusted Network Connect’s (TNC) new protocol IF-MAP (Interface for Metadata Access Point). This time it was Sean Michael Kerner writing for InternetNews.com waxing lyrical on its merits.

With backing from both Cisco and all the members of the TCG consortium, the uniting of Cisco’s NAC (Network Access Control) and the TNC’s IF-MAP should result in a standard that will be sancioned by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

The TNCCS-SOH (Statement of Health) protocol was donated to the TCG by Microsoft and forms a key part of Windows Server 2008’s Network Address Protection (NAP) technology.

IF-MAP is an XML-based specification, and has been described as the MySpace for enterprise infrastructure security hardware and software, a way all actors can talk to each other to correlate actions, thus strengthening security by allowing the whole community to share their knowledge.

This really is great stuff, so be sure to read the full story on InternetNews.com here.
