Java API for TPM under development
Posted by Ken Y-N on August 1st, 2008 at 02:36pm
On his blog, recluze (I assume he’s a he!) announced that he has joined the Java Community Process (JCP), specifically to take part in the definition of JSR321 (Java Specification Request) for Trusted Computing. This Trusted Computing Specification is described thus:
“The Trusted Computing Group developed a standard API for accessing Trusted Computing functionality from applications, the Trusted Software Stack (TSS). The TSS is targeted at applications written in the C-language. To make use of TC-functionality from Java, two groups have developed prototype solutions: MIT CSAIL has developed TMP/J, an object-oriented API using Java for low-level access to the TPM. IAIK, Graz University of Technology has developed the jTSS-Wrapper, a Wrapper making standard TSS implementations accessible from Java, and also jTSS, a native implementation of the TCG Software Stack.
The TSS-based activities followed the C-Specifications of the TCG, the resulting API obviously is not ideal for the Java world. The proposed JSR is to develop a Trusted Software Stack for Java providing comparable functionality the TSS offers to the C world.
The object of the exercise to to generate a new namespace javax.trustedComputing for use on the Java SE/EE platforms.
This looks like a promising development, and I look forward to seeing the results. The full post may be read here.

Hi,
First, yes I’m a “he”
Secondly, the JSR321 is aimed at developing java specifications for TC. Ronald Toegl from IAIK at TU-Graz is the spec lead. I’ll be posting information on my blog when there’s any public update to the JSR. Hope to keep in touch.
