The recent exciting news from Intel and Infineon is that Intel has chosen Infineon as a preferred software supplier of the Trusted Computing Platform for the vPro and Centrino technologies. From the article:
Infineon will supply Intel with its TPM 1.2 client, the software for the latter one’s Trusted Platform Module 1.2 hardware solution. Aiming at enterprise IT environments, the combination of the two elements enables PC designers to equip their desktop and laptop computers with security features such as encryption and identity management.
Infineon supply software for Trusted Computing such as its Trusted Computing Management Server (TCMS) that allows enterprises to manage PCs with TPMs onboard.
Currently there are at least 150 million PCs kitted out with TPM chips from not just Infineon, but other companies such as STMicroelectronics, Atmel and National Semiconductors. However, before Microsoft Vista there was no native support by any commercial operating system. It is projected that in 2010 more than 250 million units will be shipped, and 90% of all notebooks and desktops shipped will have a TPM.
