Full disk encryption for IBM x servers

From SearchSecurity comes the news that IBM are now offering hardware-based full disk encryption for customers using their System x servers. Their IBM System x VAULT, as it is known, leads the system manager through the encryption process, allowing one of four possible levels of security to be chosen, and costs around $1,200. How much storage one gets for that price is not noted.
Seagate, as mentioned before on this blog, also offer full-disk encryption on enterprise-level drives and are working with IBM, but the article doesn’t make it clear whether IBM are using Seagate technology here. Seagate’s drives support the standards from the Trusted Computing Group and IEEE 1619.3 on disk encryption.
