Controlling Data in the Cloud

Here’s an interesting post from the Parked @ PARC blog on a paper that the writer will be presenting at CCSW 2009: The ACM Cloud Computing Security Workshop entitled Controlling Data in the Cloud: Outsourcing Computation without Outsourcing Control.
Unfortunately a copy of the paper has not been published yet, as far as I can see, although I’ll have to look out for it.
Interestingly, they mention that their security team has been working on the topic in conjunction with Fujitsu, one of the promoter members of the Trusted Computing Group, and this relationship is perhaps highlighted by this sentence in the paper summary:
In particular, we argue that with continued research advances in trusted computing and computation-supporting encryption, life in the cloud can be advantageous from a business intelligence standpoint over the isolated alternative that is more common today
Cloud computing and virtualisation is a fascinating topic that I’m still trying to understand myself. I see on the list of authors a few names I recognise, so I should have an opportunity next month to pick a few brains.
